For the second part of my portfolio in was intending to create a sound sculpture out of found objects – in particular a public sculpture of a book with a speaker inside it that would be placed in the library where I work.
The idea for this actually started from jokes when we were at Gallery 46 to hide a speaker in the toilet and play fart sounds – sound [f]arts. I find the idea of public sculptures to be interesting, particularly in this culture-jamming sort of way – instead of the art worlds obesession of bringing the readymade into the gallery, bring the art into the public space.
Heres a video of me experimenting with a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W with max msp – using a pirate audio driver ‘SHIM’ it allows a 3W speaker to be powered directly from the Pi. The pi is then powered by a portable power bank.
The sound coming from the speaker, some experiments of manipulated whispers that were originally for the game im making, can be changed remotely using OSC (this is done around 15 second into the video).

I was initailly intending this to be a separate project, but now im thinking it might be interesting to use objects such as this (everyday objects) as controllers for audience members to participate in the performance of the game – perhaps they could be both?
