Lesson with Hector MacInnes

This session introduces ways of thinking about sound in the context of social art practice, communities and co-creation. We will work in groups to map any anxieties and hopes we might have about working with communities, and use these maps to guide us through the session. We’ll participate in / listen to / play with some examples of work, covering a range of sonic approaches to social practice. Finally, using some of the frequently used sonic frameworks for social practice – listening, resonance, amplification, attunement – we will use our voices, bodies, the environment and found materials to devise micro-workshops to deliver to each other, before reflecting on the creative, ethical and professional questions they raise.

Considering what equipment, spaces or other resources i might need for this project – A problem that could be seen with my working is that I often does use tools that would be inaccessible to me outside of university – This is an intentional limitation I’ve imposed upon myself so that on finishing the course I still have access to technolgies and tools within my own budget. This limitation could be seen as negative – me working within my comfort zone – but I think it has the positive in allowing me hone a craft.

The more obvious problematic element to me is also symbiotic with this, my working in solitude
